A lovely Mk2 Sprite.

The early box bodied Sprites retained the same doors and cockpit as the Frogeye, giving them a minimalist appearance with all the joys of open top motoring.

Simple, clean lines

These early box bodied Sprites have super clean lines compared to the later models. The chrome bumpers are set off by the egg-crate style grill, and the flat rear cockpit finish shows how the designers originally wanted the car to appear. It was only later when BMC (Later BL) took hold of the design that they added a rise at the rear of the cockpit (and rubber bumpers) which spoiled the simplicity of the concept.

Low power lightweight fun

Powered by either a 959 or 1100cc A-Series engines, these Mk2 Sprites don't make a lot of power. However, for simple open topped motoring in the countryside and trips to the pub, these little cars still offer an exhilarating driving experience. They are lightweight and eager, pulling to a suitable 55mph with ease and sustaining those speeds no matter what the road conditions.

“It's difficult to imagine a more simple, elegant and pleasing little sports car to own and drive”
