A total restoration

I imported this Mk1 (Frogeye) Sprite from the USA in 2016 with a view to 'refurbishing' it. However, it soon became apparent that everything about the car wanted (and deserved) to be restored correctly.

Attention to detail

The Frogeye was shipped over from New York in a container in early 2018. It then sat in the workshop for six months while I made decisions about who to entrust with the bodywork and paint. Unfortunately the car had suffered with poor attempts at restoration and repair in the past. In addition, a Frogeye body shell isn't particularly easy to work with, primarily because the bonnet and rear clip are both large and complex shapes. Eventually the decision was taken to have the car completely dipped at Envirostrip in Tamworth - which revealed previous repairs and any areas of corrosion. Fortunately, this shell was solid with very little metal moth.

Professional fabrication and paint

The restoration took almost four years. Once the shell was back from dipping we could assess the work involved, and the decision was taken to let Bill Rawles Classic Cars in Hampshire tackle the fabrication and repairs as well as the final paint. A new all-steel bonnet was sourced as the original was beyond economical repair.
